The Exhibition on ARTSY

Galerie-P6-Berlin is pleased to present the exhibition, ‘Metropolis’, a compilation of digital impressions by artist Ian Jones of one of the most alluring, shape-shifting, and dynamic metropolitan cities of contemporary time, Berlin.

A city has the power to mesmerize and capture a person's awe. In the words of Fritz Lang, upon visiting New York City for the first time: "the buildings seemed to be a vertical sail, scintillating and very light, a luxurious backdrop, suspended in the dark sky to dazzle, distract and hypnotize". Fritz was inspired by the towering architecture of the city of New York as the framework for the conception of the set of ‘Metropolis’, his momentous Oeuvre and considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. The dark yet fantastical dream of Metropolis resonates today in present-day Berlin as it was filmed in the famous Babelsberg studios of Berlin/Potsdam and mimics Lang’s idea of what a 2026 Metropolitan city would be.

An expat from Great Britain, the artist Ian Jones finds inspiration and solace in long ‘Spaziergängen’ (strolls) throughout the city of Berlin. Jones is influenced by the rich architectural history and vibrant modern culture that the city has to offer and captures his impressions through photography, later transforming the works into wondrous abstract digital imagery. The city becomes his muse.

In the right hands, a tortured soul is a catalyst for creativity. Ian Jones uses his artwork as an escape from past tumultuous times and as a quest for light and fulfillment in the process of rebuilding his spirit. All of these sensations contributed to the latticework of his own personal journey into creating artwork as a therapy to set his mind free. His digital works are part of this pursuit of mental freedom. ‘METROPOLIS’ features musings on the artist’s journey through a city to spark insight and translated into visual stories and enhanced in a digital environment.

His crusade in the arts continues to expand as he launches his new digital gallery, gp6digitaler, to feature a collection of his digital works.
